Pumpkins and Parties

On Wednesday night we carved our pumpkins. Logan loved his pumpkin and kept having to go outside and looking at it on the steps. He got Halloween this year and it was so fun.

Go Aggies!!

Logan loved playing with his pumpkin. His was Jack Skeleton (I think that is his name) from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Since Alex was out of school on Halloween I let him have a party with a few of his friends. It was such a nice day we got to make a mess outside rather than in my house.:) We made Halloween cupcakes and eyeballs. The kids had a lot of fun and enjoyed playing for hours outside.

PS Moms I do have pics of your kids cupcakes if you want them.

Blog Overload

I had some free time today so I thought it would be good to update my blog. I have 5new posts on here. Most of them are right after each other but one was back from the 21st so it is before the pumpkin post and tackle me Tuesday. Enjoy the blog overload!!!

"Me" says Logan

I am constantly hearing "mom, me." When I turn around Logan is in some new pose and wants his picture taken. Here are some of the latest shots of "me."

Pumpkin Walk

One of our family traditions is attending the Pumpkin Walk. It is a display of scenes entirely made out of squashes. They do a great job every year. Logan is really into Halloween this year so it was fun to watch him get excited over the pumpkins and the carvings in them. It was a fun family activity.

They have these cool cutouts and my kids loved them. Here are my kids as a variety of different characters.

Primary Program and Fun with Grandma

Alex's primary program was today. He did such a good job and sang every song. He had memorized his part and said it very clearly. I was so proud of him!! As they started the primary program they had the kids out in the hall. They then had them walk in singing Called to Serve. I was a bawling mess. Anyone who has been to the MTC knows the power that that song has. I always tear up when it is sung. When the kids walked in the Spirit was so strong and I just pictured all 70 of these kids in just a few years sharing the gospel. It was a tough moment for me.
After the program we had some fun Halloween things to do along with dinner with the Neu Grandma. The boys had a lot of fun playing with her. Alex and I then decided to take her to Whitney to see where President Benson was buried. It was a fun day with Grandma. Thanks Grandma for all of the fun treats and for coming to the program.
(I will include the video a little later so stay tuned.)

Cute things in the fridge

I cleaned out my fridge on Saturday. It was a mess so it took us a while to do. Alex was really helpful and scrubbed down everything but the shelves. Well the monkey decided that it was a perfect place to hang out.

Once an Aggie, Always an Aggie

I love being an Aggie!! When I was a freshman I was wondering what I got myself into. Even the semester I got home from my mission I wondered why I came back up here. But now this is truly home for me and I can't imagine living anywhere else. People who knew me in college I'm sure are very surprised to hear me say that. I have raised my boys to be Aggies. It is safe middle ground in our divided household. This weekend was homecoming so I bundled the boys up and off we went to the parade. Dad headed to the school down south, who stole our colors:P, for a game there. We had a lot of fun and got way to much candy. Check out this video of Logan.

It is a trick he learned all on his own.
Not so sure about the fire truck. It was very loud.

He finally decided it was ok and could wave.

Both boys patiently waiting for candy.
Logan was done even before the parade was.

Alex's favorite entry.

Both of my cute Aggies.

Hip, Hip Horray for the pumpkin!!

I love fall and pumpkins. If it has pumpkin in it I will devour it. I am kind of funny though in that I don't like the pumpkin smell that are in candles and other things. It is fake pumpkin and I don't do fake. Back to topic.
I have been craving pumpkin so I decided to do pumpkin pancakes for dinner. My last year attempt at this failed miserably. I went online looking for a yummy syrup recipe when I came across a pumpkin pancake recipe that went with it. It was the best food I have had in a long time. I think I ate 6 pancakes on my own. Here is the recipe for those who love anything pumpkin:
Hot Cider Syrup
3/4 cup apple juice or cider 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup 2 tbs butter 1/2 tsp lemon juice(I make it without this)
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (I actually did 1/4 tsp of pumpkin pie spice)
Combine the ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat: simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes or until slightly thickened. Let stand 30 minutes before serving.
Pancakes
1 cup all purpose flour 1 tbs sugar 2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp cinnamon 2 eggs separated 1 cup milk
1/2 cup pumpkin 2 tbs vegetable oil

Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the wet ingredients just until moistened. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, fold into batter. Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto a hot greased griddle. Serve with syrup.

After doing that project I had almost a full can of pumpkin. That can't go to waste, it is liquid gold. I decided to make pumpkin bread with the rest of the pumpkin. If you need the recipe I will email it to you. Thanks to my sweet mission mom for the recipe. I did however want to try an experiment. I did not want chocolate chips in the bread I wanted them on the bread. I then came up with an invention of chocolate cream cheese. It was so good and the 4 loaves we had our gone in one day.
To make the chocolate cream cheese:
8 oz of cream cheese One bag chocolate chips (approx 2 cups)
Use a mixer to soften the cream cheese. Then melt chocolate chips on low in a saucepan. Do not melt chips all the way, you want it a bit chunky. Then immediately pour chocolate into the cream cheese and mix well. Mix with just a few drops of milk so the mixture does not get hard and unspreadable. Spread on the pumpkin bread and enjoy a taste of heaven on earth. Use caution this recipe is addictive.

Tackle It Tuesday

When it comes to housekeeping it really is a chore for me. I find no joy in it whatsoever. I just do it because it has to be done. My friend introduced me to this website a while back and I have looked at it off and on. It is called tackle me Tuesday and is sponsored by this website http://www.5minutesformom.com.
It is a good webiste but honestly it is not for me. I am not a scheduled person when it comes to cleaning. I have to be in the mood for cleaning or I don't do it. However, I did see one thing that got me inspired, a free bottle of CLR Kitchen and Bathroom cleaner. My kitchen sink is horrible looking and I have tried everything. Here is a pic:
I scrubbed the sink to death and I don't think it is the CLR's fault that it did not work. The sink is one the builders put in and is not high quality. Anyway I did try it on my shower head and it looks good now. I am fortunate to live in a fairly new home so I do not have very many grungy things here except my sink. I will however keep using this cleaner so as to make my chores a lot less of a chore.

Missionary Monday

My cousin just left on a mission. He is going to Hawaii. I was thinking about it and this set of cousins may be the last set that Alex sees as an example before he leaves on his mission. He is the oldest grandkid on both sides of the family. I wanted to try and focus on missionary work for our FHE activity once a month. Since Dallin had just entered the MTC the week before we thought he would love to have some cookies. For FHE we made homemade Oreo cookies, drew pictures and read D&C 4. It was a lot of fun. If you have any ideas on good missionary activities we can do let us know. Also if you know of someone serving a mission and they need prayers for an investigator or something let us know that as well. Here are some pics of our cute future missionaries.

Sad but funny video

I just saw this video on Yahoo today. That poor bride.

Haunted Dino Park

As a reward for being so good this week we took the boys to the Dino Park in Ogden. Alex had been earlier this summer and loved it so I thought this would be a fun family event. The park was decorated with all kinds of ghouls and lights. The dino park has sound as well so you could hear the dinos as well. It was a little freaky. Not to mention that it was dark and not very many real lights around.
The funniest part of the night was when Alex walked by a Grim Reaper and looked back and said that it wasn't real. Well just as Logan was right in front of him he decided to jump out and scared Logan. He came running to me saying no,no,no. I could not believe that someone would do that to a two year old. The funny thing was Logan went right back up to him and the guy waved at him and then Logan was ok. I guess we can add resilient to the list of ways to describe Logan.

Alex the Jedi and Logan the fisherman.

Logan loved spinning the skeleton's head around and around.

Logan trying to suck out brains with a glow stick. Thanks to the delay on the camera it was not captured.
